Working with Gedcom files
From Genea-Doc
Gedcom is a format for data exchange between genealogical applications. You can save information from other applications and work on it using Genea. On the other hand, you can save information from Genea and use it with any other genealogical application.
Genea offers the following possibilities for working with Gedcom data.
[edit] Reading Data
Importing Data: If you want permanently to add data from the Gedcom file to your data, you should use this option.
Load a Family Tree: If you have a Gedcom file containing all data of a family tree, you can directly build the family tree from the file. You have the option to import the loaded data into your own database.
Open a Gedcom-file as an Additional Data Source: If you temporarily need the data from a Gedcom file, you can open the file as an additional data source. Its contents are then available like from your own database, but can be removed easily. They are also removed when you exite Genea.
[edit] Saving Data
Save a Family Tree: When you've created a family tree, you can save the whole family tree at once by using this functionality. You do not need to store a family tree in a Gedcom file for later working on it with Genea, because its contents are permanently stored in your database.
Save all or selected people: If you want to save all, or only selected people, to a Gedcom file, you should use this function. It allows you to select various people for exporting, or simply select all from your database.
