Open a Gedcom-file as an Additional Data Source

From Genea-Doc

Jump to: navigation, search

This functionality is available from version 1.2. If you are using an older version of Genea, you can easily update to the current version. (Which version of Genea am I using?)

You can open a Gedcom file from Data - Open Additional Source
You can open a Gedcom file from Data - Open Additional Source

If you do not want to process the data from a Gedcom file directly, but rather need its contents later, you can open the file as an additional data source. This means, that the file's contents are available within Genea like the other data you entered yourself.

The contents of the file can be easily removed later and are automatically removed if you close Genea. If you need the data permanently, you can also import the data from the file.

Chose Data - Open Additional Source from the menu and select a file. This file is then read by Genea and is available like your regular data.

Closing a file is done at Data - Close Source

If you want to remove the data from the loaded file, select the appropriate name from the menu at Data - Close Additional Source. Please note, that this is only possible, if no data from the file is still in use. In this case, an error message is shown.

Please note, that although changes to data from the Gedcom files are possible, they are not automatically saved back to the file. You can use the function to export data instead.
